Description
The hearse house, located north-west of the Church of St Mary and St Helen, was built around 1875, likely by J Francis Doyle. It is constructed from rock-faced red sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with red tile ridge cresting, stone copings, and gablet kneelers. The building is a single storey set on a high plinth with a weathered plinth band and consists of three bays. The gabled entrance front has vertically panelled double doors within a two-centred moulded arch, above which are three stepped squat lancets set over a weathered sill band. The left side has three equally spaced lancets with a weathered sill band, while the right side has no openings. The interior has not been inspected. This structure is part of a significant group surrounding the Church of St Mary and St Helen, which adds to its importance.
