Description

Old Bank House is a town house with an attached gateway, now functioning as a pair of lock-up shops with a flat. It is dated 1703 and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a whitened roughcast exterior with timber shop fronts and painted flush quoins, topped by a slate roof with coped gables and end stacks. The gateway is made of rusticated red sandstone.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a four-bay front set on a high stone plinth. To the left, a gateway arch provides access to the flat at No.6A. The shop front of No.4 is plain with pilasters, a broad fascia, and a cornice, while No.6 has a smaller window and a four-panel bolection moulded door beneath a rectangular overlight. The first floor features recessed sashes with stone sills and glazing bars, and there are two smaller sashes in gabled dormers at the attic level, which also have copings. The left gable end displays projecting bands at the first floor and eaves levels. The right gable end has a tablet with the initials S.G.I. and the date 1703, now visible in No.2 Parkgate Road. The gateway arch has a shouldered head and a flat lintel.

Inside, No.6A contains a cottage staircase based on winders, two-panel doors, and wide board doors. There is an old four-panel door, along with exposed beams and purlins in the attic.
