Description

Nos. 112 (part of Lloyds of Chester Hotel), 114, 116, and 118 Brook Street are four small town houses dating from the 1830s. The buildings are constructed of Flemish bond brown brick and feature a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the front. Each house is three storeys high with one bay per house. They have a painted stone plinth and three steps leading to the doors, which consist of six fielded panels for Nos. 116 and 118. The door for No. 114 has been replaced and is overbuilt on the Lloyds of Chester Hotel.

Nos. 114, 116, and 118 feature doorcases with fluted pilasters, friezes, and pediments. No. 114 has a simple overlight, while Nos. 116 and 118 have radial bar overlights. The buildings have painted stone sills, a sill band on the first floor, and wedge lintels. The wing of the Lloyds of Chester Hotel, on the right, and No. 118, on the left, have recessed 16-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors. The second floor of the Lloyds of Chester Hotel has a 12-pane unequal sash, and No. 118 has a 16-pane sash. The windows of No. 114 have been replaced, as have the cross-casements of No. 116, which are likely from the 19th century, all within unaltered openings. There is a lead rainwater pipe and a moulded rainwater head located between the Lloyds of Chester Hotel and No. 114, along with a moulded cornice and a one-course parapet made of painted stone.

The interiors were not inspected, and the rear of the buildings is not visible from public viewpoints. The main block of the hotel, which was refaced by Lockwood in the 1900s, is not included in this listing.
