Description
Hawthorn Cottage is a cottage and shippon dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century addition for the shippon and 20th-century alterations. The building is timber-framed with brick nogging and some brick repairs. It features one bay constructed from tooled sandstone blocks, a corrugated iron roof, and two brick chimneys. The cottage is 1 and a half storeys high with a four-bay front. The left three bays are timber-framed, with a door at the left end that has an added gabled hood. The remaining bays have three-light casements with glazing bars, and the upper windows are set in gabled half-dormers. The right end bay is overpainted in black and white and includes a door to the shippon at the front, along with a square pitch hole in the gable. There is a partly demolished brick extension to the right. The left gable reveals a tiebeam and collar truss, as well as the arch of a brick oven. Inside, timber-framed partition walls are still present.
