Description
The gatepiers with attached walls and railings at Tattenhall Lodge were built in the mid-19th century for the Bolesworth Castle estate. They are made of ashlar sandstone and feature wrought-iron railings. The structure includes a pair of gate piers, with the right pier linked to two matching piers arranged in an L-shape. Between these piers are dwarf walls and railing screens. Each pier has a chamfered plinth and arrises, topped with castellated caps, one of which is displaced. The linking walls also have chamfered plinths, small intermediate piers, and chamfered copings. The railings are adorned with quatrefoils decorated with foliage beneath the mid-rail and have clustered-leaf finials. The top rail is surmounted by similar finials with spikes in between, including a taller central spike with clustered leaves and a ball.
