Description

Hoofield Hall is a farmhouse dating to circa 1870, built for John Tollemache. It is constructed of Flemish bond orange brick with purple brick headers, and has a purple tile roof with four brick chimneys featuring clusters of diamond-shaped stacks. The south front is symmetrical with five bays and two storeys. It includes a plinth and a band at the first floor level. The end pairs of bays have barge-boarded and pendant-finialled gables with both real and painted timber framing. Tall, two-light wooden casements are set within segmental brick heads below. A central gabled porch with a decorated truss contains a studded half-glazed door fitted with ornate hinges. Windows on the sides and rear retain lozenge-shaped glazing bars. Inside, there is little of particular note, except for a cheese oven with wooden doors located in the office. The hall is representative of standard large farmhouses built on the Tollemache Estate.
