Description

Number 93 Street is a town house, now functioning as a hostel, dating from the mid-18th century with minor alterations. It is constructed of Flemish bond brown brick and features double depth grey slate roofs.

The building is three storeys high, with the main front facing Nicholas Street mews. It has a double fronted design with a painted sandstone plinth and four stone steps leading to a door made of six fielded panels, which has a three-pane overlight and a replaced simplified pedimented doorcase. There are recessed 12-pane sash windows on either side of the door, and above the door, there is a similar sash window on the second storey, along with a larger 12-pane sash window to the left and a blocked window opening to the right. The third storey features a six-pane sash window above the door, a tripartite sash window of two, six, and two panes to the left, and another blocked opening to the right. All windows have plain stone sills and gauged brick cambered arches. The parapet has a kneeler and plain stone coping, which is carried at ridge level between the two gables.

The left end of the building facing Watergate Street is plain, with two blocked window openings on the third storey. There is a small service wing of irregular form that includes two 16-pane flush sash windows and gable kneelers.

Inside, the first and third storeys have doors of six fielded panels, while the second storey features doors with three broad panels. The dogleg staircase has an altered handrail on stick balusters between the first and second storeys, and the third storey retains a heavily painted swept handrail on the lower flights.
