Description
The Church of St Wilfred, a Roman Catholic church, was built between 1864 and 1866 by Edmund Kirby and later enlarged from 1901 to 1902. It is constructed of brown brick with a graded grey slate roof, featuring blue brick bands and dressings, and stone cills. The church has an aisled nave, a north porch, a chancel, and a fleche belfry with blank lucarnes. The west window consists of two pairs of lancets with plate tracery, while the north and south windows are also paired lancets. At the east end, there is a triple lancet window with a rose window above. The nave and chancel share a continuous roof.
Inside, the church has an impressive scale, featuring six bay north and south arcades supported by octagonal softwood posts, with small framing above and arch-braced trusses.
