Description
A row of three cottages on Main Street, Frodsham, dating to the 17th century and later, with alterations. The front is pebbledashed, with brick showing through the gable, and a sandstone base on the right-hand side. Some oak framing exists at the rear. The roofs are slate.
No. 47, on the left, is two storeys high and symmetrical, with a flush chimney on the left gable and a central ridge chimney. It has six-pane wood casement windows to the lower storey, and a six-pane casement to the upper storey on the left. The upper casement on the right has leaded sidelights and a small-pane wood centre light. No. 49 has a replaced boarded door and a ridge chimney. It features a six-pane wood casement window on the lower storey, and an eight-pane sprocket dormer window above. No. 51, in the right-hand cross-gable, has a damaged 19th-century six-panel door under a cambered head, and a two-flue brick lateral chimney projecting in front of the ridge. Each storey has a two-pane casement window.
Restoration work in the early 1980s suggests that No. 51, and part of No. 49, where small framing survives, are of 17th-century origin. Parts of No. 47 and No. 49, constructed of brick, are likely somewhat later. Interior planning has been altered, probably in the 18th century and later.
