Description
Tidestone is an early 19th-century sandstone pillar, erected to mark the limit of an extreme high tide in 1802. Made of red sandstone, it stands about 30 centimeters above the ground, with its base buried in the earth. The pillar has a rectangular section, a segmental head, and chamfered rear edges. The front faces northeast and features an ashlar surface inscribed with the words: THE TIDE / CAME TO / THIS STONE / JANUARY / 21, 1802. The rear and sides of the stone are blank.
