Description

This is an early to mid-17th century cottage with 19th-century extensions. It is constructed with brick nogging on a stone base, and the extensions are in washed brick. The roof is corrugated asbestos, with a ridge chimney built of brick. Originally designed with a two-room baffle-entry plan, the cottage is one storey with an attic, and has a four-bay front. The timber framing is irregular, featuring relatively large panels. The windows are 19th century, consisting of two-light wooden casements, with smaller windows containing glazing bars set into flat dormers above. A four-panelled door is located in the third bay, sheltered by a small lattice porch. Inside, the entry is against a baffle wall, leading to the main room on the left. The ceiling includes inserted chamfered beams supported by later turned mahogany posts. A partition wall is constructed with wattle and daub. The tiebeam and collar truss of the former end gable displays vertical studs and a blocked original window.
