Description
Lower House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century or early 17th century, with later additions and alterations from the late 17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. It is constructed of red sandstone ashlar and red English garden wall bond brickwork, topped with a slate roof.
The entrance front features three bays of early 19th century brick on the left and 18th century stone on the right. There is a deep plinth on the right and a lower plinth on the left. To the left of the center, there is a half-glazed 19th century door with a pediment above. The right side has two 2-light casement windows, while the left side has one. The first floor has similar window arrangements.
On the right gable, there is 20th century render and a 3-light 20th century casement window. The left side features an early 19th century gable end to the right, with a recessed wing from the 16th or early 17th century on the left. This wing contains a 5-light window with an ovolo-moulded ashlar surround, mullions, and a transom, which is now blocked.
