Description
102A Hoole Road is a former estate house and storage building that has been converted into a private residence. The original house likely dates from the late 18th century, while the storage wing on the right was added in the 19th century. The house features a double-pile grey slate roof, while the wing has a brown tile roof.
The exterior of the three-storey house has two windows and a two-storey wing, with no entrance facing the road. The former estate house displays rusticated wedge lintels and painted stone sills on the upper storeys. On the ground floor, there are two pairs of three-pane French windows, and the first floor has flush sashes with square panes. The second floor has replaced metal windows with nine panes that match the proportions of the original windows. The house has a parapet and two flush gable chimneys, along with a moulded lead rainwater head on the left side, likely designed in the mid to late 18th century.
The right wing features an altered or inserted casement with three two-pane lights on the ground floor. The first floor has a distinctive design where the top twelve courses are corbelled out in a houndstooth pattern, creating projecting panels around two flush sashes with twelve square panes. The eaves show exposed rafters, and there is a ridge chimney along with a projecting gable chimney. The rear of the building includes a doorway and various types of windows, including recessed sashes with twelve panes, sixteen panes, and four, twelve, and four panes.
Inside, the property boasts a Georgian staircase with a lower flight now in a closed well. The staircase features turned column-on-vase balusters and a Chinese balustrade above. The doors are made of two fielded panels, and there are broad-board doors with 18th-century latches and hinges. The flooring consists of broad oak boards, and oak purlins are visible. Additionally, there is a game rack in the wing.
