Description
The sundial in St. Bartholomew's Churchyard, located in Great Barrow, is a Grade II listed structure. The shaft of the sundial is likely medieval, while the plate is dated 1705. It is made of ashlar red sandstone and features a square base with two steps. The base has a socket that holds a slightly tapering octagonal shaft topped with a coved cap of buff sandstone. The small square sundial plate is inscribed with the names Robert Hankinson, Richard Robinson, and the date 1705. It is believed that the shaft originally belonged to a churchyard cross that was broken in 1613. Parish accounts indicate that a dialstone was repaired and set up in 1779.
