Description

This pair of gatepiers, dating from around 1790, is located approximately 5 yards from the western door of the Church of Christ in Alsager. Designed by Thomas Stringer, the gatepiers are constructed from yellow sandstone ashlar. Each pier is monolithic and has a cross-shaped section, featuring moulded bases and capitals. The piers have stepped tops that support vase finials, which are designed with conical bases and adorned with swags and ribbons on their upper bodies.
