Description
A terrace of eight houses, numbers 6 to 13 Gaskell Avenue, was built around 1830. The houses are constructed of brick with a slate roof. They form a fifteen-window range, with projecting bays positioned centrally and on the left side. The doorways have round arches constructed with stepped brickwork, topped with decorative fanlights above two-panelled doors. A continuous stone string course runs along the facade. Alternate upper floor windows are fitted with stone balconettes, supported by moulded brackets, although some of the original ironwork has been removed. The window arrangement features alternating twelve-pane sashes and tall casements; the ground floor has tall casements, some of which have been replaced. All windows have flat-arched brick surrounds, except for No.13, which has cambered heads to its two-pane sashes, and No.6, which has a full-height canted bay added in the late 19th or early 20th century. The central projecting section has round-arched sashes on the ground floor and casements with margin lights above. The eaves are moulded and feature paired modillions. The building has axial stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
