Description
The Shinto Temple is a 19th-century Japanese temple located in Tatton Park. It is constructed of wood with stone and bronze details and features a shingle roof. The temple is a square, single-storey building situated on a raised platform.
The entrance front has four wide steps leading up to the level of the platform base. There are stone boxes supporting six square wooden columns that have horizontal braces. A flight of seven steps leads from the base to the top of the platform, which is enclosed by a balustrade featuring ball finials on the newels.
The main body of the temple consists of four round posts and four rectangular screens that are pierced with square holes. The two central screens are taller and create a double door entry, adorned with decorative round bronze bolt plates. The rear elevation mirrors the front but lacks steps. The side elevations are similar, featuring three round posts and pairs of pierced screens of equal height. The roof is half-hipped, decorated along the ridge, with dropped decorative boards at the hips.
