Description
Swanley Hall is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the early 16th century, featuring later alterations and additions. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and has a roof made of concrete interlocking tiles. It stands two storeys tall and consists of four bays, with two gables at the south end that complete an "L" shaped plan.
The north face of the "L" angle has a semi-circular headed door made of oak, which is boarded and features false strap hinges, set in a recessed reveal. The windows are mainly three-light casements with glazing bars, set beneath either flat cambered or segmental arches. A two-course-deep brick band runs along the first floor level. The original oak wallplate and rafters are exposed at the eaves, and there is an area of multi-strutted gable timbering visible above the added wing to the north. The gables also feature barge boards.
Inside, the farmhouse showcases early 16th century style moulded main beams and deep stop-bevelled ceiling joists.
