Description
Savio House, formerly known as Ingersley Hall, is a religious house that originated as a residence around 1775 for John Gaskell, with further construction completed in 1833 for John Upton Gaskell. The building features a front made of ashlar stone, with the rest constructed from coursed squared pink or buff sandstone rubble. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof and four stone chimneys, presenting a long rectangular plan.
The north front is symmetrical with two storeys and five bays, designed in the Greek revival style. The bays are separated by plain square pilasters, topped with a projecting cornice and a shaped blocking course. The windows are 12-pane sashes. A prominent heavy detached Doric porch, accessed by four steps, features an eight lozenge-panelled door, flanked by marginal lights and a rectangular fanlight behind.
The west front has two storeys and eight bays, with the central three bays representing the original house. This section includes rusticated quoins, an ashlar band, a projecting cornice, and a blocking course. The windows here are also 12-pane sashes, but one additional bay has been added. The south door features a Tuscan doorcase, likely from the late 18th century, which has been relocated from the west front.
Inside, there is little remaining from the 1833 construction or earlier, but notable features include an elliptical arched opening with moulded soffits and several six-panelled doors.
