Description
The barn at Sowcar Farm is a corn barn dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof with a stone ridge. The left end of the barn has been partly reduced and now has an asbestos roof. There is a cart entrance on the left side, which is covered by a segmental rubble arch. To the right end, there is a door with an ashlar surround. Between these features, there are two square pitch-holes above and two lines of ventilation slots. External stone steps lead to the loft against the right gable. A 20th-century breeze block dairy has been added to the right but is not included in the listing. The barn is noted for its group value within the context of the surrounding area.
