Description
The Cottage at Savio House is a former farmhouse, now a hostel, dating from the late 18th century, with an addition to the right that is dated 1850 and some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared buff sandstone rubble and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof, with a stone ridge and four stone chimneys. It has a double pile plan with two parallel ridges.
The original farmhouse has a two-storey, symmetrical three-bay front. The end bays contain tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, set under rough stone lintels, while the central bay features a primitive doorcase with a 20th-century glazed door. The two-bay extension has windows that are sympathetic to the original design. At the rear of the extension, there is a laithe with a cart entrance that is set under an elliptical arch, which is marked with "JUG 1850" on the keystone. There is also a door to the right and two circular pitch holes above, along with external stone stairs on the gable end.
