Description

PLUMTREE FARMHOUSE is a farmhouse, likely dating to around 1700, and subsequently altered. It is constructed of irregular bond brown brickwork with a clay tile roof. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical design and originally three windows. A four-pane door now occupies the front entrance, and replaced cross-casement windows are set within original openings, each with a flat gauged brick arch. A square central chimney is present, marked by three-course bands at the first floor level and eaves. An attic window is visible in the left gable, while a blocked window is present in the right gable. The rear kitchen wing has some evidence of a former bread oven in its gable end. The interior features a lobby-entrance plan. Ingle-nooks with oak bressumers are found in the left parlour and kitchen, while a blocked ingle nook exists in the right parlour. Chamfered oak beams are also present, and only the newel-post remains of the original staircase.
