Description
This sundial and its base are located approximately 5 yards southeast of Combermere Abbey. The sundial features a 19th-century shaft that rests on a base dating from the 12th century. The base is made of yellow sandstone ashlar and has a circular shape with a moulded lip, which likely served originally as a base or capital for a Romanesque column from the abbey. The octagonal shaft of the sundial has a bulbous lower body and is topped with a copper plate and gnomon.
