4/38 - The Gables - II

Cottage, late C17. Removed from Plumley near Knutsford and re-erected on this site in 1974. Timber framed with plastered panels and tiled roof. Single storey and attic, 15 panels long and 5 panels wide, 3 window-bays. Sandstone plinth, small framing all walls with angle braces. 3- and 4-light ovolo moulded mullion windows with leaded lattice glazing, those at attic level in gabled dormers with barge boards and gable-ends. Oak boarded door formed into three vertical panels by scotia moulded fillets. Timber eaves gutter on raking timber brackets. Plain brick stack eccentrically positioned along the ridge. INTERIOR: Ovolo moulded and bevelled beards and exposed ceiling joists. C20 replaced oak staircase with winders and splat balusters.
