Description
The Gables is a cottage from the late 17th century that was relocated from Plumley near Knutsford and re-erected on its current site in 1974. It features a timber frame with plastered panels and a tiled roof. The building is single storey with an attic, measuring 15 panels long and 5 panels wide, and has three window bays. It has a sandstone plinth and small framing on all walls, supported by angle braces. The cottage includes 3- and 4-light ovolo moulded mullion windows with leaded lattice glazing, with the attic windows set in gabled dormers that have barge boards and gable ends. The entrance is an oak boarded door divided into three vertical panels by scotia moulded fillets. The eaves gutter is made of timber and supported by raking timber brackets. There is a plain brick stack that is eccentrically positioned along the ridge. Inside, the cottage features ovolo moulded and bevelled beards, as well as exposed ceiling joists. A 20th-century oak staircase with winders and splat balusters has replaced the original staircase.
