Description

This is a mid-to-late 18th-century shippon and hayloft situated 30 metres to the west of Higher House Farmhouse. The building is constructed of orange brick in an English garden wall bond, with a plastered plinth. It has a Welsh slate roof and a stone ridge. The long, rectangular structure follows a downhill plan. The doorways and some inserted windows have cambered brick heads. The hayloft openings are marked by cambered brick heads framing square pitchholes, each with a board door above. These openings are flanked by two lines of ventilation holes arranged in a diamond pattern. The building remains essentially unaltered and is listed for group value only, reflecting its association with the farmhouse.
