Description

Beechtree Lodge is a former pair of gamekeepers' cottages, now a house, built around 1815 for Sir J T Stanley, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from tooled ashlar pink sandstone and features a stone-coped Welsh slate roof, stone ridge, and two gable stone chimneys. It has a rectangular plan and is two stories high with a symmetrical three-bay front. There is a projecting band at the ground storey sill level. The windows are three-light, chamfered stone-mullioned with iron casements and applied lead glazing. The central porch is stone-coped and gabled, with a cambered stone head above the entrance, which now contains glazed doors. There is a similar doorcase behind with a five-board door. Inside, the lodge features four-board doors with simple iron latches and exposed sawn pine beams, along with two original fireplaces reported upstairs. The masonry and windows are identical to those of the extension of the Old School in Nether Alderley, which is dated 1817.
