Description
This stable block, built around 1780, is located approximately 10 yards northwest of The Grange. It is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick and topped with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features an 11-bay facade that is symmetrically arranged with a stone plinth. The central projection consists of three bays and includes a central basket arch with stone quoins, voussoirs, and a triple projecting keystone. An ashlar band runs along the level of the springing.
On either side of the central arch are basket arches that have been blocked and now contain single doors. The first floor features a central louvred window with a flat-arched head, flanked by round-arched openings. The left and right ranges each have three bays. The left range includes a door on the right with stone quoins, two windows with 4 x 2 panes to the left, and three openings on the first floor, with the central opening extending lower. The right range is similar at the first floor level but has an altered ground floor.
At both the extreme right and left of the building are single, slightly projecting gabled bays. The left bay has a two-storey blocked arch at the center, with an ashlar band at the level of the springing and ground floor doors on either side. The similar bay on the right is obscured at ground floor level by a lean-to.
