Description
The main entrance gates to Haughton Hall, built around 1891, feature sandstone piers and cast iron gates. The large square piers are set diagonally to the gates and are made up of six ashlar blocks resting on an ogee moulded stone plinth. The sixth blocks are decorated on four faces, with two showing rosettes and foliage, one displaying a festoon, and the fourth featuring a shield with heraldic treatment. The caps of the piers are ogee and ovolo moulded, topped with ball finials. The gates, attached at the angles of the piers, are constructed from square bars and adorned with fleur-de-lis, scrolls, leaves, spikes, and large lyre-like elements. An overthrow sits on a metal panel made from square bars, roundels, and scrolls, primarily showcasing scrollwork and leaves.
