Description
53 King Street is a house built around 1830. It is constructed of red brick with some stone details and has a slate roof. The house features a central entrance plan above a cellar that was likely used for handlooms or other industrial purposes. It is two stories tall with three bays, large sash windows that have glazing bars, and stone lintels. The first floor has a cill head. The doorway is framed by panelled pilasters and a modillion cornice, and it has a four-panel door with a three-pane overlight above it. Full-length brick corner pilasters support a stone cornice, although the left-hand pilaster is made of a different brick, likely rebuilt in 1873 when the adjoining court was constructed. The house has gable stacks, and the basement features three 20-pane sash windows and a doorway. The interior was not accessible during the inspection in March 1987.
