Description
Fitzgerald's Public House is a building that was originally a house, dating from the third quarter of the 18th century. It features incised render with painted ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof with stone gable coping and a brick chimney. The building is two storeys high and has three windows.
The central entrance has a later 19th-century four-panel door, which consists of two leaves that are now united, and is topped by a plain overlight. This door is set within panelled reveals that lead to a pilaster and entablature doorcase, adorned with large acanthus leaves below scroll brackets that support a cornice.
On the ground floor, there are tripartite bow windows on either side of the entrance, which have projecting stone sills, pilaster mullions, cornices, and curved roofs. The upper sashes of the windows have glazing bars in exposed frames.
Inside, the ground floor room partitions have been removed. The first floor flat features wide landing arches, and there is a 18th-century cast-iron fire grate in the rear room, which has fluted panels. Similar fireplaces have been reported in the attic.
