Description
Greens Public House is a public house located in Sunderland, built around 1901. The building features ashlar stone with a grey granite plinth and red granite dressings. Its roof is made of plain tiles, adorned with terracotta ridge finials and copper domes, showcasing a Baroque style.
The structure has one high storey and five windows. A high pediment sits above the three central bays, flanked by domes over the end entrance bays. The central panelled door, which is round-headed, has keyed architraves, and there are flanking windows with Diocletian overlights. The outer doors are now blocked, and windows have been inserted, rising through an impost string to segmental pediments. Above these are recessed lights with glazing bars.
Ionic pilasters rise between the openings, and along with the keystones of the central arcade, they support a pilastered entablature with a prominent cornice. Above this, a steep pediment features shallow pilasters flanking a small open-pedimented dormer window with block rusticated pilasters. The outer bays have a ramped parapet, behind which are ogee domes topped with tall spike and ball finials. The cross plan roof behind the pediment has a pedimented lantern at the junction of the ridges, with mace finials at the ends of the main ridge.
