Description

This lamp standard, located north-west of the War Memorial on Burdon Road in Sunderland, dates from around 1925. It is made of cast iron and features intricate decorations. The lamp has an octagonal base that supports a fluted post, which is adorned with acanthus foliage. At the top, there is a moulded section with four ornamental brackets, each holding a light globe. The name of the founder is present at the base but is heavily overpainted.
