Description
Nos. 211 and 212 on High Street West, along with Nos. 214-217, form a terrace of six houses that have been converted into shops and offices. Built around 1800, the buildings feature mid-20th century shopfronts. The exterior is finished in painted incised stucco with painted ashlar dressings. The terrace is three storeys high and has a total of 16 windows arranged in three groups of three for most houses, while the end houses have two windows each. Nos. 216 and 217 have been combined into a single shop. The right end of the terrace has rusticated quoins. Most of the upper floor windows are renewed sashes, all featuring sill bands, with label moulds above the two left windows. There is an eaves band and a blocking course, except for the five right bays, which have an eaves gutter cornice and a blocking course. The roof is low pitched and hipped on the right side, with small gabled dormers on the right and on the right return, both having glazing bars. The ridge chimneys are rendered, and the right return also displays rusticated quoins and an eaves gutter cornice.
