Description

Nos. 14-17 Old Bond Street form a group of four houses, part of a terrace fronting a pedestrian walkway with shops, now used as offices and comprising three properties. They were built in 1769. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with slate roofs. The plan follows a double-depth design, with mansard roofs characteristic of John Wood’s domestic terraces.

The exterior consists of three main storeys, an attic, and a basement, with five windows at No. 14, three at No. 15, and six at Nos. 16 and 17. The windows are mostly sash windows with glazing bars. Dormers with twelve panes are visible at No. 14 (three) and Nos. 15, 16 and 17 (two each). The sashes on the main floors are set in architraves, and the first-floor windows have cornice hoods, with triangular pediments over bays Nos. 2, 4, 7, 10 and 13. No. 14 features a twelve-pane window above a plain sash. No. 15 has a twelve-pane window above a deep fifteen-pane window, while Nos. 16 and 17 have twelve-pane windows at each level, likely their original format. The shopfront at No. 14 is a bold double bow with a thirty-six-pane design, dentil cornice, and central doors, dating to 1955 and designed by Ernest Tew. The shopfront at No. 15, and those at Nos. 16 and 17, were added in 1982 by David Brain. The upper levels feature a modillion cornice with a blocking course and parapet, plus five coped party divisions, each with deep rubble and ashlar stacks. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
