Description
No. 9 Trim Street is a house in a row that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and has 20th-century additions. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a slate roof.
This tall property has been carefully restored on the outside, with an added attic floor and a mansard roof. It stands four storeys high, with an attic and a lower ground floor. The façade has two windows, all of which are sash windows set in plain reveals. The high mansard roof includes a large paired sash dormer, while each of the four main floors features paired sash windows and single sash windows, all with twelve panes. The lower floors have windows that are deeper than those on the upper floors, and there are balconettes at the first floor.
The lower ground floor has a 20th-century door with a side light to the left, along with a small paired sash window. There is also an early six-panel door framed by an architrave, topped with a flat shaped slab hood supported by tall fluted brackets. A modillion cornice is present above the second floor, along with a cavetto cornice, a blocking course, and a parapet. A stack is located to the left of the building.
The interior has not been inspected. The street itself was laid out in 1707 on land owned by George Trim, situated just outside the medieval walls, but this building is a later replacement. Trim Street retains its flagged pavements and a roadway covered with setts.
