Description

This building, located at 14-16 Stockton Road, is a former farmhouse that has been converted into shops, offices, and a flat. It dates back to around 1700, with early 19th-century additions and shop alterations from around 1900, as well as modifications made in the 1990s. The structure is two stories tall and features two windows on the main house, with a two-story addition on the right side that has no windows on the front and three windows on the right return. The exterior is rendered with painted ashlar dressings and has a composition tile roof.

The ground floor is occupied by shops that have 20th-century fronts; the right shop has a canted corner with a corner post and a full-width fascia above a two-bay house. The original building has two renewed first-floor windows set on a sill band, with projecting painted rusticated quoins at each end and a steeply pitched hipped roof on the right. The second part of the building has a blank first floor at the front and features a parapet above the eaves level of the first building, which continues over the first two bays of the right return.

The first and second shops on the right return flank a renewed door leading to the flat above. There is a corniced fascia above the left shop, and the central door has urn finials on the brackets above it. The right side has three renewed shops, with a painted flat stone lintel above a narrow window over the door, altered lintels on the flanking wide windows, and two renewed windows above the third shop, which also has a projecting stone sill.
