Description

The Wright tomb, located about 12 metres south of the presbytery of Tynemouth Priory Church, is a Grade II listed porch tomb dating from around 1806. It commemorates members of the Wright family who died between 1795 and 1806. The tomb is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features columns and an entablature that support a small casket set against a shaped slab. Inside, there is a low relief sarcophagus. John Wright of Dockwray Square, associated with this tomb, was noted as the 'founder of several elegant streets' in North Shields and Newcastle.
