Description

West House is a mid-18th century house located on the south side of Front Street, Tynemouth. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and a painted plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The house is two storeys and an attic, with five windows. A central, one-storey, one-bay gabled porch contains a boarded door with Gothic panels under a shouldered lintel. Above the door is a sandstone panel with a six-foil opening. Contemporary sash windows with glazing bars are set within wedge stone lintels and sill bands; the windows are tripartite on either side of the central bay. An eaves gutter board runs along the roofline. A hipped dormer window centrally is visible, featuring a two-light casement and slate-hung cheeks. Two tall end brick chimneys are present, the one on the left having an ashlar band.
