Description

This is a mid-18th century house located on Front Street in Tynemouth. It is constructed of painted English-bond brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring sandstone ashlar gable coping. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with three windows facing the street. A one-storey porch, with an entablature and blocking course, is situated in the third bay and contains a six-panelled double door sheltered under a carved bracketed canopy. The windows are sash windows set within projecting boxes, each with a wedge stone lintel. Other features include a rendered plinth, first floor and sill bands, and an eaves band beneath a gutter board. A central dormer window has a shaped gable with a ball finial and slate-hung cheeks. There are two tall brick chimneys at the ends of the house, one banded in brick and the other ashlar-coped, and one at the rear left. The left return side of the house features a high oriel window resting on corbels with pendants, situated above a two-storey canted bay. The building is notable partly for its contribution to the surrounding group value.
