Description

The sewer gas lamp located at the north corner of the junction with Grange Park in Whitley Bay is an early 20th-century structure. It is made of cast iron and features a curved glass lantern. The lamp has a fluted standard that supports a high valve leading to a domed canopy. At the top, there is a ladder-rest. The base of the lamp has panels that read 'WEBB LAMP COMPANY LTD. BIRMINGHAM' on the south side and 'J.E. WEBB's PATENT SEWER GAS DESTRUCTOR' on the north side.
