Description

The sewer gas lamp, located on the east side of The Links in Whitley Bay, dates from around 1900. It is made of cast iron and features a curved glass lantern atop a tall fluted standard. The lamp has a high valve leading to a domed canopy. The base includes panels with raised inscriptions: "WEBB LAMP COMPANY LTD., BIRMINGHAM" on the north side and "J.E. WEBB'S PATENT SEWER GAS DESTRUCTOR" on the south side. Additionally, there is a ladder rest at the top of the standard.
