Description

This is a sewer gas lamp located at the north-east corner of the junction with Pykerley Road in Monkseaton, Whitley Bay. It was made in the early 20th century and is constructed from cast iron with a curved glass lantern. The lamp features a fluted standard and a high valve leading to a domed canopy. At the top, there is a ladder rest. The base of the lamp has panels with low-relief lettering that reads: 'WEBB LAMP COMPANY LTD. BIRMINGHAM' and 'J.E.WEBB'S PATENT SEWER GAS DESTRUCTOR'.
