Description
This is a terrace of nine houses located at 66-84 Carville Rise in Newcastle upon Tyne, built between 1978 and 1980 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as the site architect and structural engineering by White, Young and Partners. The main contractor was Fairclough Building Limited. The entrance front is constructed of red modular metric brick, while the garden fronts use pale modular metric brick, with stone used for no. 66. The roofs are covered with concrete Marley Modern tiles. The houses are two storeys high and feature green weatherboarded eaves on the garden front, a brown rear porch on no. 68, and red metal hoods at the front. The windows are timber framed with timber surrounds and aluminium opening lights, and the doors are timber with glazed panels, some of which have been replaced with hardwood. The interiors have not been inspected. This terrace is a prominent feature overlooking an open space.
