Description
The tomb of John Dobson is located about 175 metres south of the gates of Jesmond Cemetery in Newcastle upon Tyne. The structure includes a headstone, an enclosing rail, and a flat cross, with the headstone and rail dating from around 1905, while the cross is from approximately 1865. The headstone is made of marble and is inscribed to commemorate John Dobson, who died on 8th January 1865, as well as other family members, including his daughter Margaret, who died in 1905. It features a scroll design with carved lilies. The graves are enclosed by a chamfered sandstone curb with twisted iron posts and diagonally-set square rails. In the center lies a plain sandstone cross inscribed with the initials "J D." This tomb is listed for its historical interest.
