Description
The Carriage Public House is a former passenger railway station located on Jesmond Road in Newcastle upon Tyne. Built between 1861 and 1864, it is possibly designed by John Dobson. The building is constructed of brick with a sandstone ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring stone gable copings and kneelers. It showcases a Tudor style and consists of one storey with attics, arranged in three bays. The tall gabled central section features a Tudor-arched doorway with double doors, along with stone-mullioned windows of varying sizes in this section and in the flanking lower gabled bays. There are also stone slits in the gable peaks. The steeply-pitched roofs are complemented by tall octagonal corniced stone chimneys, and there are cross-gables on the returns. This building holds historical significance as the last surviving station of the Blyth and Tyne railway.
