Description
Nos. 68 and 70 Jesmond Road are two houses built around 1850, located on the south side of Jesmond Road, at the right return of Victoria Square. They are constructed of English bond brick with an ashlar basement and dressings, and feature a slate-hung right return and a Welsh slate roof. The buildings consist of a basement and three storeys, with No. 70 having four bays on the left and No. 68 having three bays on the right. Access to the houses is via seven steps leading to 8-panelled doors with overlights, which are framed in architraves; this is found in the second bay of No. 70 and the first bay of No. 68. The windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills, with sashes that include glazing bars on No. 70, while No. 68 has top-hung casements on the second floor. The eaves are adorned with a gutter cornice, and the low-pitched roof features ashlar-corniced brick chimneys.
