Description

The Armstrong Memorial, built between 1905 and 1906 and designed by Hamo Thornycroft, features a statue along with screen walls and piers. It includes sandstone steps, walls, piers, and a pedestal, with a bronze statue and low reliefs. The memorial has two curved steps leading up to a tall square pedestal that supports a life-size figure of Lord Armstrong. The square piers, which have plinths and bracketed pilasters with cornices, end in screen walls that display low-relief panels. The left panel depicts guns being lowered onto a ship, while the right panel features the Newcastle Swing Bridge.
