Description

Deuchar House is a bonded warehouse, later converted into flats, dating to around 1840 and originally built for the Sandyford Brewery. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a plinth, and has a Welsh slate roof. The main block is three storeys high with seven bays, while a lower right wing rises three storeys and has nine bays.

The main façade features a central glazed entrance inserted around 1983 within a high, arched opening. The entrance to the right wing has a pair of double four-panel doors and a curved overlight, set within a deep, stop-chamfered surround topped with a cornice and segmental pediment. This pediment is inscribed with “OFFICE/1904/ROBERT DEUCHAR LTD.” in panels. Glazing has been inserted into a segmental arch above the main entrance, and similar arches flanking it contain sash windows set within recessed stone panels. The sashes, along with the windows in the right wing, have pecked stone lintels and projecting sills, with the exception of two glazed doors inserted into the second and third bays from the right end. Horizontal bands mark the floors and eaves. The building is finished with an eaves gutter cornice and a blocking course. The main block has a hipped roof.
