Description
The tomb of A. Reed, located about 100 meters south-west of the gates of Jesmond Cemetery, is a Grade II listed Gothic tower tomb built around 1843. It was designed by architect I. Dobson and serves as a memorial to Archibald Reed, who was a sheriff, alderman, and six-time mayor of Newcastle, having died in 1842. The tomb is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a 21-stage tower with pinnacled diagonal buttresses and an octagonal spire. It includes head-stopped drip moulds and a slab at the west side that marks the entrance to the vault.
