Description
A terrace of six houses built in the mid-19th century, located on Claremont Place in Newcastle upon Tyne. The houses are constructed of yellow brick with sandstone ashlar dressings, and have Welsh slate roofs with brick chimneys. Each house is two storeys high with a high basement, and features three windows. A stone plinth forms the base of the building. Stone steps lead to four-panel front doors—except for number 30, which has a glazed door—set within stone pilaster and entablature doorcases, topped with deep dentil cornices. The windows are sash windows with side margins, wedge lintels, and projecting cills. A stone top frieze and cornice is punctuated by brick dentils. Transverse chimney stacks, some corniced, are a defining feature. Dormers have been added to numbers 29 and 30. A shared escape balcony is present between numbers 28 and 29. At the time of survey, numbers 27, 28 and 29 were empty and had boarded-up windows.
